CAMPO

Rules

CAMPO is meant to be for everyone. For your colleague who never misses a home game of her favourite club; for your grandma who still reminisces about the heroes of the 1982 World Cup; for your neighbour who plays for the local club. That is why prediction games on CAMPO follow simple rules that die-hard football fans and casual players alike can grasp in minutes.

Here are the key points.

Creating a prediction game

  • The name, description (optional) and picture (optional) of a prediction game are yours to choose.
  • Once the game is created, an invite link is generated through which players can join. The link can be shared with as many people as you like.
  • Joining is possible until kickoff of the first match.
  • There is no obligation to predict. Missing or deleted predictions earn no points, but there is no other disadvantage (except, possibly, under the "more predictions made" tie-breaker).
  • A prediction game needs at least 2 players. Until that is the case, no predictions can be placed. If fewer than 2 players are present at kickoff of the first match, the game is deleted automatically.
  • The creator of a prediction game is automatically its admin. The admin role can be transferred to other players. You can only leave a prediction game as long as you have not placed a prediction and the first match has not kicked off. An admin must also transfer the admin role first.
  • A prediction game must include at least 10 matches if the matches are picked individually. Alternatively, one or more competitions can be selected as a whole ("subscribed"). In that case the minimum of 10 matches does not apply, which means a competition can be subscribed to at any point in a season. When a competition is subscribed to as a whole, upcoming matches are added automatically; the admin does not need to do anything.
  • Matches can be added or removed until the first prediction by any participating player. After the first prediction this is no longer possible.
  • The admin can remove players. This is possible until 90 minutes after kickoff of the first match. Removed players are notified by email. The admin can lift the block until kickoff of the first match; the invite link then works again for that person.

Playing a prediction game

  • The correct winner or a correct draw earns 10 points. The correct number of home or away goals earns 4 points each. The correct goal difference earns 2 points. So a maximum of 20 points can be won per match.

Example: prediction 2–1, result 3–1. The player receives 14 points (correct winner and correct number of away goals).

  • The winner (and recipient of the digital trophy) is the player with the most points after all matches. If players are tied on points, the following criteria apply in this order:
  1. More predictions made
  2. More perfect predictions (20 points)
  3. More correct winners/draws predicted
  4. More correct home goals predicted
  5. More correct away goals predicted
  6. More correct goal differences predicted
  7. System-generated random draw
  • A prediction game ends once all matches have been played. If one or more matches are postponed, the game stays open until those matches have finished.
  • Predictions can be placed or changed until kickoff. The scheduled time counts, not the actual time. So if a match is scheduled for 15:00, predictions can be placed or changed until 15:00, even if the match only kicks off at 15:30 (because of the weather, for example).
  • The result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time counts.
  • Fellow players' predictions become visible shortly after the final whistle.
  • If a match is abandoned, predictions stay in place. If the match is resumed at a later date, the final result counts. If the match is not resumed, all predictions are voided and no points are awarded. Cancelled matches do not count.
  • Predictions for matches that are rescheduled before kickoff can be changed until the new date.
  • The winner of a prediction game receives a digital trophy. The points from every prediction game a player takes part in on CAMPO are added up and determine the player's global ranking. The 50 players with the most points also earn a place in the Hall of Fame, which is visible to all CAMPO users.
